Pros: 4.90 % on balance transfers for 4 years.
Cons: Will tell you anything over the phone just so you'll want the card.
The Bottom Line: I detest being told I'll get one thing, and then get
another.
If a Discover Platinum Card representative calls you it would be best to record the conversation.

If it sounds too good to be true, 99.9 % of the time it isnt true.
Three weeks ago a male Discover Platinum Card representative called. I usually dont listen to calls like these.
The representative speedily said, You get 0% interest on purchases for 4 years. I said, no way. I asked him 3 times in the conversation if it was true about the 0% interest on purchases for 4 years.
He said, its most definitely true, you get 0% interest on purchases for 4 years.
The Discover Platinum Card representative also said, you get a low 4.90% on balance transfers for one year.
When I get my card in the mail the information goes as follows.
Purchase rate is 0% on purchases until March 2007 and after that the interest rate goes up to 13.99% which is way too much.
Balance transfer rate is 4.90% until Sept, 2010.
I agree that 4.90% on balance transfer is a good rate for 4 years.
Ive never had a huge balance amount on my credit card. In other words, I dont need to transfer a huge balance to another credit card.
Since most cards have a 25-day grace period, what I usually do is make purchases and pay off the purchases before the grace period ends.
Therefore, I believe the representative gave me false information in order for me to sign up for a Discover Card.
Discover Platinum Card makes a big deal out of their cash back program. If you buy from their affiliates, you get 5% back on purchases. If you buy from any other company you only get 1% back on purchases.
I had a credit card that paid 2% on purchases previously. I only received $1.35 in one month with several purchases.
A person really doesnt accomplish much with these cash back programs.
Make one late payment and there goes all the money you made on the cash back program.
I havent activated this Discover Card yet. I probably will cut the card up and send it back.
I just dont like being told what interest rates, time periods, etc. Ill get on a card, and get the opposite of what they told me on the telephone.
If the Discover Card representative would have told me, I just want you to sign up for this card no matter what. I wouldve told him no.
I called the Discover Card Company, but I dont have time to be put on hold all day and listen to easy listen music.
I e-mailed Discover Card, and I havent gotten any response from them.
I sent Discover Card a nice letter, and they have had time to send me a letter back. I still havent received any mail from them.
This already tells me to cut the card up if their customer service is this bad.
I shouldve recorded the conversation I had with the Discover Card representative.
Thanks for reading and rating.
