| mrtigger1's Full Review: Discover Card |
I recently got the Discover Platinum card once again, had it before but cancelled it. It used to be with this card you could take a cash advance, pay the transaction fee of 2.5% and if you paid the balance in full when u got the bill there was no interest! But that is History, now it racks up at 20% as soon as u take the cash advance!
But my new offer has given me 0% on purchases for 5 months so I am taking advantage of that, but after that it jumps up to 15%, that is when I stop using the card!
A couple good things about the Discover Platinum card is that is one of the few credit cards to still have a 25 day grace period, and it does offer a few discounts on line through its web site discover.com.
As for the cash back bonus, this is a joke, Discover claims up to a 2% rebate cash back bonus paid once yearly. However to obtain this 2% rebate you have to charge a very large amount of charges on your card. This system is tiered where the less you spend the lower percentage of rebate, therefore if you charge like $1000 on your card you get like a check for $2.50 once a year. The wording of this rebate is very confusing and is basically a marketing ploy.
Overall the best feature is the 25 day grace period, it is a good card to have but just read the fine print very carefully!
