| topolski's Full Review: Yahoo! Visa (First USA) |
First USA offers many cards under the brand names of marketing partners. With the exception of some branded perks, they are essentially the same.
I was a First USA bank cardmember for a year. I was very excited to receive the Yahoo! Platinum card (managed by First USA), a nice credit limit, and 9.99% interest. I paid them often and much more than the minimum payment. I was paying them using my online banking, which deducted funds from my checking account before transmitting the funds to First USA -- so what happened next is amazing.
They said that my check bounced -- an impossibility since the funds were deducted from my checking account before being transmitted to First USA.
To straighten it out, it took nine months and a dozen letters and many, many more phone calls to them (they NEVER return phone calls), closing my account, and twice complaining to the Office of the Comptroller of Currency (regulator of National Banks) and twice to the Office of the President of First USA to straighten everything out.
First USA's customer service problems are reknowned. Check out the First Scams web site, a site set up by the company's customers, at http://www.firstscams.com/ for more information and hundreds of horror stories. Even here on Epinions, First USA is currently recommended less than a third of the time.
If you're not a First USA customer, don't become one. If you are a First USA customer, get out before they harm you too.
