Pros: Pros--let me see--LL Bean an MBNA are exposed and go out of business??
Cons: LL Bean has sold it soul my dealing with MBNA!!!!
The Bottom Line: LL Bean, save your company, dump MBNA. Make you money by selling good products, not by credit card trickery.

My mother-in-law just passed away, a popular matriarch in our family, a retired English teacher. She always paid her bills and had a great credit report. In her later years she loved mail order, including LL Bean. She passed away on the day her MBNA/LL Bean was due, with a debt of about one thousand dollars. A few days after Mom's death, my wife called LL Bean to advise them, as her will attorney told us to call any creditors and they would lock the account, and the account would be settled as the will was disbursed. My wife was immediately sent to collections, where she was thoroughly harassed, and told that we should pay the bill ourselves immediately. They attempted to get phone numbers, addresses etc. to do their collections routine on anyone they could find. About a week later, on Christmas Eve, our family was getting through the holiday without Mom, and having a quiet time. LL Bean/MBNA collections called (yes, Christmas Eve) and I answered. The man began to tell me they needed payment. I asked him if there was a note that the bill would be settled with the will as the lawyer had told us to say. He found the note, and the continued to harass me, trying to get me to pay the bill.These idiots will get paid, but they didn't seem to care, just continuing to harass. It's just amazing to me to see LL Bean's advertising, advocating the Christmas holiday, etc. and then watch their real behavior. As businesses cease to exist in 2009, I sincerely hope that LL Bean joins them. Unfortunately, MBMA will survive because they are just unscrupulous enough to come out on top, with good people on the bottom.
