| plparsons's Full Review: Hilton Credit Card (American Express) |
My wife and I decided to change from our American Express Blue card to the Hilton Honors card from American Express to get more rewards since she travels quite often with work. There couldn't have been a better decision we had made with a credit card.
This rewards card is great since it gives customers points based upon what they spend on their American Express card. One honors point equals one dollar spent on the account. The points are redeemable for free hotel visits. Each hotel will have a different amount of points needed to stay for free. Typically the better hotels will take more points to stay at them, such as resorts and downtown hotels. Lastly, this program costs NOTHING to enroll and is great since most American Express cards cost to have.
We decided to get this award card because my wife travels quite often with her company and normally is staying at hotels and flying to locations at least 2 weeks each month. This really builds up points quick since Hilton awards more points if one stays in the Hilton family of hotels and such. Also, once a customer moves up in status levels, such as gold, silver, and so on, they also receive more points per dollar spent.
My wife and I currently are Hilton Honors Gold VIP status members who have spent so much or whichever on the account. We also earn 5 points now per dollar spent at specific locations such as gas stations and so on when we make purchases there, thus earning more points quicker.
As for customer service, this card rates well above average. We had a purchase that came up on our account twice and was an error at the location. We called American Express to resolve the situation and was squared away as promised on the next month's statement. Second, as for Internet account access, this card has much ease to pay online and view statements as any other card. It is nearly immediate when purchases are made on the card and when they show up on the account online. The website is very user friendly and I would suggest to anyone to use it if they have this credit card.
We have enjoyed free stays twice since enrolling in the program a couple of years ago. Our first stay was at a beachfront hotel in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and was amazing. The value of the free lodging was over $1000! The stay was worth more than any other kind of "gimmick" reward program that I have been involved before.
Our second stay was recently at the new Homestead Studio Suites in Colorado Springs, and it was amazing. The value of this stay was worth over $350. I would have to say that this is the greatest rewards card for those who want to have their spending work for them.
The only catch to this program that works for us is that we pay our balance in full every month. If you are one of those types of persons, I would completely recommend to use this award program. If you do not pay the balance in full, it would be a good idea to consider, but this has worked well for us since her company pays the travel expenses when they are charged on this account and we square away the rest each month.
