| elastica's Full Review: Diners Club (Citibank) |
I was pretty peeved at first when my company switched from using American Express to Diners. It seems that too many people were buying Victoria's Secret items and not paying their bills. But I've grown to really like the Diners Club Card
The Diners Club card is a great credit card. You don't have to pay anything for 60 days and that really helps if you work for a company where you're reimbursed slowly for your expenses. It can be used at all airport parking facilities that I've ever been to (That's Nashville, Detroit, Kansas City, BWI, Reagan National, Dulles, Newark, JFK, La Guardia, and St. Louis). It's available at most (But not all restaurants). It works at all major car rental and hotel chains. It's even starting to pop up all over the place: Ticketmaster, 1-800-Mattress, and gas stations.
How's their Customer Service?
This is a very important question. In today's electronic age, you have to be able to view your statements online and their rewards catalog. You can also print your online statements. It has the best customer service I've ever dealt with. Give them a call 800-2Diners. I think when people leave convents after learning true patience they become Diners Club Service representatives.
What about points?
You get 2 points for every dollar you spend. 100,000 points is about $400 dollars of stuff. You can redeem your points for just about anything once you reach 100,000. If you have less than 100,000 you're limited to what's in their catalog, but I think you'll be impressed with the selection...check out their website. I've ordered flowers a few times and they were beautiful. OK I never saw the flowers but my girlfriend kissed me extra long after getting them.
What kinds of things to they have in their catalog?
Golf clubs, CD players, watches, Comp USA Gift certificates, patio sets, wine fridges, outdoor patio heaters, weber grills, travel packages, rental car packages, and even airplane company lounge memberships.
Best experience with the card
I was late paying by about 5 days and they didn't charge me a late fee or a percentage. I talked to the manager and he waved it.
What happens if I don't pay after 60 days
There is a $20 charge plus 1.5% of your total amount outstanding.
Why doesn't everybody have a Diners Club Card?
-It's not accepted beyond "travel" types of places.
-You can't use it at the grocery store, CVS, or the mall.
-You won't be able to use it with all taxi cabs.
-If you want the points you (or your company) has to pay $50 for the program.
