Incompetent Customer Service
The Bottom Line: A fee to bill you when you cancel your account??? I think they are being stupid/spiteful!!!! At least, tell the customer what the exact charges are before charging a fee.

I called to cancel my U.S Bank NW card. The rep informed me that US Bank will charge $2.50 for generating a bill after the credit card is closed i.e if there is a balance after the card is closed. I asked her what my total balance was so I can pay the entire amount now and not have to pay the fee. She said she cannot tell me the exact balance as some merchants to a pre-authorization (gas stations) before sending in the final amount. I asked her how am I supposed to pay the entire bill when she can't even tell me what it is. I talked to her supervisor who basically repeated the policy. She made no attempt to provide options or work with me. So basically, I have to call in next week to find out the exact amount before cancelling. The thing that gets me is the $2.50 is a cancellation fee...the credit card company can't tell the exact outstanding balance and hence gets to charge the fee. Also, they want to charge a fee for billing me for charges. I would understand the fee, if they billed me for the charges and I didn't pay in full but not charging the first time around. As for customer service, I don't why they have people working as they are not adding value by providing options just repeating the policy.
Frankly, if I am going to get bad service, I would say move all these jobs to India...then in that case, I'll still get bad service but at a much lower cost basis.
