| toiletoctopus's Full Review: American Express Blue |
If there is one thing in the world that makes me mad, it is no other company than American Express. They are the very definition of evil, and I regret that I cannot give them negative stars for my opinion of them. Although many of my friends and family members are not pleased with them, I feel like a cobra with plenty of venom and am ready to bite. They have caused my blood pressure to rise, and my temper to go to an all new level. They are pathetic, and the worst of the credit card companies.
I am not a perfect person, but the one thing I am proud of is my credit score. After years of being conservative with my fiscal responsibilities, and buying a house and cars, I have no problem in being approved for any zero percent financing offer with a credit card. My credit lines have grown over the years, and I always pay my cards off in FULL each month after a zero percent offer has been completed. I also stick with the credit card companies that make these offers, so I'm not a "cut and run," type of customer.
Recently, I got an offer from American Express Blue, for a zero percent card for fifteen months. I was thrilled, and decided I would get it to purchase a laptop computer. The card arrived in the mail less than a week later, and I was shocked to see the zero percent offer was only for six months. The credit line was impressive, but the APR after the offer expired, was a rate based on extortion. I realized that there must have been a mistake, so I decided to call them, as I have resolved mistakes in the past with other credit card companies.
Getting ahold of a customer service representative was nothing short of a nightmare. Their customer service line(1-800-528-4000), is an absolute joke. You have to press all kinds of numbers to get a real person, and their representative must have still been in the first grade. I explained my situation nicely, and expected decent service. Instead, this rude employee said she could do nothing for me, and that she would be happy to cancel the card. After much insistence, she patched me through to their Member Services. While the employee was polite, she was unable to give me a better offer. She could not extend the zero percent financing offer for another six months, let alone the additional nine.If I wanted a card with an annual fee of $65.00, she could offer me twelve months zero percent financing.
I cancelled the card, as I did not need any of this nonsense. It seems that once you get ahold of their customer service representatives, they are powerless to help you. Their website is no better, as I even tried to follow up with their corporate side with a nicely written letter. It seems that American Express, must throw their letters into a bonfire instead of reading them. They admitted to me on their customer service line, that sometimes offers change by "unforeseen factors." That is why I threw the card out, after ripping it into a million pieces.
If you want this card, which I would fully recommend against, it does have some benefits after you get through the lies. There is no annual fee on it, and balance transfers are 3.99% until you pay it off.(Unless they change this rule) There is a free rewards program, where you can earn points through many purchases. You will have to spend thousands of dollars before you get anything worthwhile in return. You also get fraud protection, and some travelers benefits while using this card on vacation spots throughout the world.
In addition to their terrible customer service and lies, American Express Blue is only good at certain locations. Retailers are more likely to accept Visa , Mastercard , and Discover. The reason is simple, as American Express charges retailers more money for their cards services at their locations. It is more commonly accepted in international locations that I have been to, which is great for travel purposes only.
After my experience with American Express Blue , I would recommend going with any other credit card. My other credit card companies have had spectacular customer service in comparison, and I'm not sold the Brooklyn Bridge, when I apply for an offer. This company will promise everything, and then fail to deliver. I'm not the only one, as many other card holders I know have had similar experiences. Go with anyone else, or be unhappy with American Express Blue. It is not accepted everywhere, and it will only give you a raging headache.
