Pros: great start for the student without a credit history; simple online service
Cons: no real benefits that could not be found or exceeded on other cards
The Bottom Line: The CapitalOne student card is a great start for those who are just getting started establishing credit, but check to make sure there's nothing else out there better.

| stumplifter's Full Review: College Student Card (Capital One) |
The CapitalOne Visa College card is the first credit card that I ever received. Unfortunately, it will probobally be the first I get rid of in my effort to maximize my credit potential. Let me emphasize that the card helped me to establish the credit to get better cards, but at the same time I am more than a little bitter over the power (or lack thereof) behind it. My card has a limit of 500 dollars on it, where my others cards have at least 1000. Also, I am not allowed to upgrade to a better CapitalOne card because I am still a collage student, and though that may seem trivial, that kind of discrimination irks me. My parents, who don't have as good of credit as I do, have gold cards, and all the benefits that go along with it. That leads me in to the most valid point of mine against the card: most any other collage card will be at least as easy to obtain, and several have the added benefits that are lacking here, such as phone card functions, and travel bonuses (spring break!). On the other hand, CapitalOne has an excellent online program that I can't speak highly enough of, with the ability to view your account, and even pay your bill on the spot. At the same time, this is not exclusive to the collage card, or even to CapitalOne.
