| thewatchman's Full Review: College Student Card (Capital One) |
The best single word for Capital One is "Predatory". Their advertisements are cute and funny, but that's where the enjoyment stops. They have NO grace period, cascading levels of penalties and fees, and you'd better have Almighty God as your legal counsel if you want to challenge them. You'd be better off getting a loan from the mafia - because with their sleazy business practices you get nailed at every turn. Anything you do generates some type of fee or penalty, and before you know it a small secured account is a huge liability. Long story short, I had a $300 account and got nailed for a late fee. I disputed this as vigorously as I could, but they wouldn't budge. I paid off the card and requested the account to be closed. They stopped sending statements but never applied my final payment. 5 years later I checked my credit to find a charge off and also saw they had continually applied late fees, over limit penalties, and compounded interest monthly. After 5 years my "paid off account" became a $3,800 outstanding debt. Don't try to get it removed from your credit bureau reports either - they'll just re-age the debt and tack on more fees. Unless you want to do business with Satan and his demons - avoid this company. You have been warned.
