I read the reviews on Chase, both pro and con. There are some things I agree with from my personal experiences and some I do not agree with.
I received my Chase MasterCard over 6 months ago. I transferred my "loan shark" Cross Country Credit Card balance to my Chase card at a rate of 3.99% vs. the Cross Country rate of 21.0%. This saved me a fortune.
Any current purchases receive the 3.99% interest rate as well. Cash withdrawals against my Chase MasterCard get slammed with an incredible 19.05% interest rate. I don't like this considering the Federal Reserve is dropping the prime to record lows but that is a story for another review.
I have had good experiences with Chase Customer Service. My calls have been routed to a "real person" reasonably fast and I've been happy with their handling of my inquiries.
For example, this past winter my part of the world got buried under 26 inches of snow that basically shut down all our mail delivery. My payment was held hostage in a mail truck somewhere between Cape Cod and Delaware. It arrived late, I was assessed a late fee. The fee was credited when I told Chase Customer Service of the situation. After all, it was National News!
On a second occasion I just plain forgot to mail my payment to arrive before the billing date. I realized this the day before, called Chase and explained the situation. They allowed for a direct deposit out of my personal checking account, something they usually charge a fee to process.
This brings me to my main gripe. The Chase Web Site is chocker block full of timely information about my account. You can basically trace all your purchases and payment right down to the last 10 minutes. Unlike my other credit card companies I can not schedule or make payments online. This is a real inconvenience forcing me to write checks, lick envelopes and stick stamps and mail.
I prefer to do as much of my banking and bill paying online as possible. My schedule does not allow for me to do my banking and bill payments except after normal hours. I also find it near impossible to get to the post office before they close their windows. Chase really needs to institute online bill paying functions in their wed site.
Overall, I'm satisfied with my Chase relationship.
