Cons: Where do I begin...
The Bottom Line: You're better off going to a shady check cashing place than dealing with First National.

| melissabear's Full Review: First National Omaha |
I got a First National Bank of Omaha credit card, special edition when I was in college. I never used it, I had no problems.
The minute I moved across the country and started using the thing, problems began and I found myself calling FNBO once a month to clear up some thing or another on my bill.
When I was $100 from reaching the limit on my card, *poof* I had been approved for a $1000 limit increase. Being young and poor (but still very responsible) that was great news to me. I paid my minimums and continued along, eventually getting married. My credit merged with my husbands not so awesome credit and that's when the trouble really started.
Let me begin by saying I was never late on my First National payment, and to this day, I never have been. My husband however made some bad decisions regarding joint accounts we had and all of the sudden my First National interest rate started creeping up. A few of our accounts went into collections, I remained current with First National and yet my rate continued to climb. Up, Up, Up it went and down, down, down went my credit score.
We eventually got to the point where we had just had a baby, I wasn't working, my husband wasn't making enough money and were going to file bankruptcy, I still managed not to miss a payment with First National, and luckily we were able to pay off our debts instead of go bankrupt at the ripe old age of 22.
One night in 2002, with no money in the bank and no groceries in the cupboards, we took what was supposed to be an innocent trip to Taco Bell that First National is determined to hang over my head forever. One day before my statement closing date I went $1.30 over my credit limit and my interest rate shot up to almost 35%. Its been 4 years and First National has *so generously* lowered my rate to 28%. For over two full years now I have been paying double the monthly minimum payments and these guys will not go away.
In 2006 my card expired and I had not received a new one in the mail. I called once and the customer service agent explained that they would have one sent to me. A week went by I called again and this time was informed that I didn't qualify for a renewal. I had $600 available cash or credit limit, which it still says on my bill to this day, however, my available balance says a big fat ZERO. Not that I would even think about borrowing another dime from this evil institution.
First National has single-handedly made sure any mistake made in *my husbands* past will haunt *me* for a very, very long time.
The customer service is CLUELESS when it comes to anything more than "what's my balance?" and even that answer is questionable depending on what day of the week you call.
If you have not yet had the headache of dealing with this company stay far, far away.
