This credit cards gets a huge THUMBS DOWN from me--I think in all my dealings with credit cards, this one is the next one up from the bottom--AT&T gets my all time "raspberries" in the credit card business--but that's another story in itself.
First off--their rate isn't all that competitive with other companies I've dealt with. I also don't like that fact that they are constantly sending me those "convenience checks" in the mail, which anyone who wanted to root in my mail box could get their hands on. But here are the biggies--several months ago I sent a payment to them--payment in full I might add. It arrived one day late--and even tho I had sent them payment on the account in full, they nailed me with a $29 late fee! To me that is highway robbery, the late fee on my mortgage isn't even that big.
My other big complaint is the constant hounding--my elderly mother lives with us and was continuously being annoyed by phone calls for this, that and every other thing from them. I finally put a stop to it by calling them and telling them that if they didn't quit, I would personally drive to their headquarters and shove the card so far up someone's a** they would have to have it surgically removed--I think they got the point after that as I haven't received another call.
Another thing that makes me angry--I applied for a card under my own name in addition to a joint account my husband and I had. They were hesitant to give it to me and gave me a "trial" card with a very small credit limit and it was only good for a 6 month period--guess my A-1 credit didn't mean anything to them. The ironic part of it is that I didn't use it much, so they upped the credit limit--and after the $29 late fee incident I quit using it at all--but they continue to up my credit limit and it is now 10 times what it was to begin with which is ridiculous. I'm going to be cancelling it very soon!
In closing, I guess I would have to say that if this were my only option as far as a credit card, I think I would start using cash all the time. It's no great deal.
***Please Note*** (added 12/31/00) I recently received paperwork in the mail in regards to this account--apparently a class action lawsuit is being settled due to them not processing payments in a timely fashion and people being charged late charges. Just another reason to avoid them!
