| katopasna's Full Review: Household Bank Credit Card |
I am writing this review on just a few hours of bad experience with Household Bank. I never did activate the card so I can’t give you much detail into how their monthly service would be but I do want to share the level of hell that I went through today with this AWFUL bank.
It all started when my husband checked the mail. There was a credit card in there. We thought it was one from Wells Fargo that was due any day but it wasn’t. It was a MasterCard from a bank that we did not apply too. We found out it got processed when it wasn’t supposed to. Best Buys put in the application when they processed theirs. The bad banks name…. Household Bank.
Our Experience with their Crappy Customer Service..
We called immediately to find out why this card was processed and were directed to the Security Department. Seems they needed us to send in verification of our address before they could release the account. We asked them why (we were on speakerphone) and they couldn’t answer us with a direct answer.
I am hesitant on sending anything out to anyone with any of our personal information on it because my husband was a victim of Identity Fraud. Some might say it was a good thing that they wanted that information and if they were able to tell us that was the reason why they needed it. We might have obliged. But for a company to request it without a specific reason doesn't fly with me.
The lady we were transferred to was so rude! She was so unwilling to answer any of our questions. The card was only in my husband’s name but he always gives companies permission to talk to me about the accounts since I am the one who handles all the bills. Plus I always have tons of questions. This lady wasn’t having it and we were still on speakerphone but she refused to answer any of my questions like, “Why was this card sent us, or why do you need address verification etc…” We finally got fed up with her because she refused to even let my husband speak and kept saying we DID apply for the card. We finally told her to cancel the card, we didn’t want to deal with a company that had such rude service and she had the nerve to say it couldn’t be cancelled without sending in that verification. We then asked for a supervisor and she hung up on us!
Redial
Yep, I hit redial again. I was p*ssed….We went thru about 4 representatives trying to figure this out. Finally the last one understood what we were saying. She still couldn’t give us an answer on why we needed address verification but did agree to cancel the account but had to get approval to credit us the $69.00 annual fee.. I freaked!
All in all we did get it fixed and it took almost 2 hours of mostly hold time to get this done.
Fees
I do have some information on their credit cards, this is taken from the insert they sent with the card. This bank is unbelievable with their fees.
**Annual Fee $69.00- They say this compensates them for card member services like processing your monthly statement. Like they don’t make enough money off their interest to cover that.
**Interest Rate 17.9% APR
**Late Charge $29.00
**Over Limit Fee $ 29.00
**Research Charge $7.00 for each sales slip requested
**Credit Line Increase Fee These people charge you to request a credit increase, the NERVE
Would I ever apply for any card affiliated with this bank???
NOPE! Not only was the account opened without our authorization it was almost impossible to close it. We are still stumped about the address verification thing, the way we look at it, they have the address…they mailed us the card. We called, they confirmed all personal information and that still wasn’t good enough. For me, I just thought it required too much effort on our behalf for something we didn’t even apply for. We might have considered it if their customer service was more pleasant and there were no annual fees. And after all that time on the phone, we still couldn’t get an answer as to why they needed that information. Just be cautious if you ever get one of their cards in the mail.
For anyone who is interested in dealing with bad service and high fees here is their customer service number 1-800-660-7332.
Their address is:
Household Credit Services
P.O.Box 80084
Salinas CA 93912-0084
Or you can find them online at www.HBCARD.com
I do want to point out that Household Bank is different from Household Finance. They are under the same “umbrella” but work as two independent companies. I also have not used their website at all. I did log onto but never surfed so in all fairness I will give them an AVG rating on that.
