Reading reviews on credit cards has become both amazingly confusing and somewhat entertaining. The differences between the experiences of one person to the next will never cease to boggle the mind. How can the same company be so horrid to one person and so wonderful for the another? It's almost as though they give each employee a differing set of rules to follow with their list of clients.

I have a Providian Classic Visa, and it remains the best card I have owned. And my husband and I have run the experimental gambit of credit cards. Capital One, Cross Country (both of which we encountered the same experiences as you did with Providian), Household.....

The only one we have kept open is the Providian. I have never been charged a late fee or an overlimit fee (although a couple of times it has been both), and the times I have spoken with a customer representative, the conversation has been quite pleasant. Yet, my cousin had somewhat the same experiences as you had.

It really makes you wonder what goes on inside those credit companies.

Pulled the same cr*p and got sued bigtime-they are required by federal LAW to post the payment the DAY it is recived-or they can be fined-I can't think of who it is you report this kind of abuse to(federal something or other) but you should look into making a complaint.

another think to consider is calling your local news watchdog and seeing if they can help you in some way-almost every tv news station has some sort of consumer advocate-thats how first USA got busted-

Don't let them get away with this! Nextcard did something very simaler to a friend of mine-so it isn't just Providian!

Actually, I have this horrible problem of putting things off if it requires speaking to a live person. I was actually on hold for 45 minutes last night to cancel the damn card, but just couldn't take the awful music while I already had a migrane.

All punishments for putting up with such crap are well deserved and welcomed. =P

I too fell to the "stupidity" bug and got one of these cards. I won't bore you with the details, but lets just say, I'm glad I don't have to deal with them anymore.

I feel you pain! I'm the type that will scream and yell and write nasty letters until I get what I want fixed. There are good customer service persons, but unfortunately there are far too many of the kind which you describe here. When I have one error on a credit card or bill I usually cancel it immediately because it's a good sign that the torture will continue until I end it myself. Great detailed review!

This sounds like a serious headache. I've had weird random fees added to my Discover card in the past, but the company took them off just as soon as I asked them too. I ditched all of my cards awhile back and just use a debit card, and I'm much happier...

Anyway, great review!
