| jimnjean's Full Review: USAA Savings Bank |
I've had a USAA credit card for nearly a decade. I started with a "classic" card, then got a gold, and for the last year have had a platinum card. I've gotten great customer service, as is the NORM with USAA.
One time a charge was applied to my card at a Mobil station that wasn't mine. Instead of having to explain in great detail or send a letter, the CSR just said, "no problem, I'll remove it for you." Just like that, in all of 10 seconds, they had me as a loyal customer.
There's only one problem, USAA always seems a bit slow to react to the market. For instance, their website, while coming along, didn't even open until January. It still isn't state-of-the art... Some sites allow you to view charges as soon as the transaction happens (real-time), but USAA's is at least a day behind, and only updates overnight. It also doesn't interact with Quicken/Money (you can download a file, but can't actually interact realtime).
An even bigger beef is that they don't offer a "super" premium card yet, ala Visa Signature, AMEX Platinum, MBNA Quantum, etc. Most of the aforementioned cards have special perks like free room/plane upgrades, premium club memberships, etc. USAA's best card, the platinum card (whether eagle rewards or regular) only offer's "normal" perks like auto rental insurance or a 1% cash back program (with limits).
You still won't find a better customer service company, and if you're not interested in a super-premium card, you can't go wrong with USAA. I'll carry one of their cards in my wallet for life.
