| dkozin's Full Review: Chase |
About half a year ago I started receiving mailings from Chase offering me a credit card. Since I get offers from other companies too, I did what I always do to them – recycle.
But the offers from Chase continued; I would get a letter from them almost every other week. After 5-7 of them, I got somewhat angry – they waste my time, money of shareholders and, more important, trees that go into paper production. I wanted them to stop sending me their offers.
I heard there is a law, requiring the company to stop sending mailings to the person who specifically requests it. Since the mailings don’t contain any phone numbers, I had to write to them. So I took the paper they sent me and wrote “Please remove me from your mailing list. I am not interested and do not want to receive future mailings from you.” and sent it back. This was attempt # 1.
Sure enough two weeks later I got another “offer” from them. I wrote the same message and sent it back. This was attempt # 2.
A week later, I got a letter that said that they received my application for the credit card (?) and need more information – my social security number, date of birth and such.
This letter contained a phone number, which I called. They transferred me several times and then the customer service rep told me she cannot remove me from the mailing list. When I asked her to either transfer me to people who can or her superiors, she put me on hold for a while and then wrote down my name and address, assuring me that the mailings would stop. This was attempt # 3.
Two days ago at 8 pm I got a call from Chase. The sales rep asked me if I want their credit card. They provide good APR on balance transfers she said. So I told her the whole story. How I don’t want them to disturb me and stuff. She seemed to listen carefully. After I finished, she asked me “So would you like to get a credit card with us?” I rest my case.
I asked her to remove me from her calling list. This was attempt # 4.She said it would take 4-8 weeks, but I will definitely be removed. Then I told her that, although I understand it’s not her fault, her bank sucks.
If they contact me again, I would not be surprised. And this story reflects the level of customer service you can expect from them. I also read a review here saying that the person who had Chase credit card was offered some service and, although declined, it was added to the contract and the card was charged for it. And it was very difficult to remove those charges. After my powerful experience with Chase, I see this is the rule rather than exception.
If you consider Chase as your credit card provider, please look somewhere else. Unless you like to be tortured.
