I did not choose Chase as my preferred bank due to it's reputation or service. They came as a package deal with benefits I received from a new employer. Right away, it was obvious that they were an oversized impersonal bank. Part of the package of benefits I received provided me with no fee - unlimited checking with Chase. While I was happy to not get nickeled and dimed, I could not ignore the terrible service I received ranging from ignorant and impatient tellers. Ignorant and impatient (and absent) customer service, and unbending impersonal banking officials. You are a nobody at chase. They will rarely help a personal banking customer with a special circumstance.
After I quit my job I got hammered with a barrage of fees. Suddenly I was limited in my transactions. The customer service rep. showed me how they have different packages for different usage levels, perhaps I should switch - These levels were set at extremes that the average wage earner would never fall into without paying fees. Suddenly I was paying $40 - $50 a month in fees to support my transaction levels (I was a little above average - in my opinion).
Considering that this is a large commercial bank I hoped that I would at least be able to do international transaction easily. NOT! Try to deposit a Canadian check for over $1000 and you are looking at hugh fees and a 4-6 week wait. You would think I was depositing a check from Tibet! It took 20 minuted to find someone who even knew how to complete the transaction. This bank is a bad choice. The only positive aspect is the fact that you can print out statements (for $1) and they have many locations. They are everywhere.
