From the first day that I opened a Chase banking account and up until this very day, Iíve had a less than desirable experience with this bank. I guess the first thing about this bank that irritates me was when I went to open my checking account. I was very specific in what I needed for this account. My main stress was on the fact that I wanted a checking account with no minimum balance. Since I was working as a full time volunteer, I knew that I would have very little money in my account at any time. So, they set me up with an account, which met my requirements, or so I thought. For the first few months, everything was fine. Then one month when I received my statement there was a $15.00 fee for having less than $5,000.00 in my account. Mind you, I have never had 5 thousand bucks just sitting in a checking account. So, after the huge hassle of going to the bank and arguing with a teller, they finally credited my account back the fifteen dollars. I found the teller to be extremely rude. Everything was going along fairly smoothly for about the next month or so, when another problem arose. I had apparently bounced a check. The only problem was that the money was in my bank account. Again, up to the bank I go, but they refused to credit the 25-dollar fee back to my account. Today, I witnessed another bounced check scam at Chase. A friend of mine had deposited a check into her account that apparently bounced. Instead of informing her, they tried to deposit the check again. So they charged her with 2 bounced check feeís totaling 50 dollars. Then they told her that to protect herself from having this happen again, she could pay for a service that would tell her when she had bounced a check and not re-deposit it until the funds are in her account. I donít understand why they wouldnít just do that as part of their policy. As far as I can tell, Chase bank makes the majority of their money by ripping off people for phony bank charges. The service is deplorable and the rates are disgusting. I would not recommend this bank to anyone.
