I transferred my account from Bank of NY because of poor customer relations. I was very satisfied with 1st Union the Second I stepped through the door. I researched the banks in the area for the best deal and the most convenient service. Chase had a $3K min. on checking accounts and no student programs. As a students I couldn't keep that balance! Citi Bank made me wait for a 1/2hr so the account ladies could finish the jokes they were telling and go smoke a cigarette.
1st union whisked me away and made me feel as if my student checking account was really important to them. The financial advisor was busy at the bank so right away a regular teller brought me aside and showed me the different account options, and he was not prompted my anyone! He was nice enough to answer literally all my questions so that when the Financial advisor was finished she was able to plug my info in and get started. They set me up with a checking card even though it was not policy with a student checking account(I requested it) and gave me important tips about establishing my credit while in college.
When college came around a few months later, the same advisor helped me fill out my financial aid applications! Every time I go in now the remembers me (its not a small town or a small bank) and says hi even though I only had a few hundred dollars in a student checking account, and he has hundreds of clients with tons of cash to burn.
The only down part is that I have a fee if I use a teller. I dealt- fine because the bank has something called express checking so you can make fast easy deposits (fill slips out before you go and just put them in a mail box inside the bank) There is no fee for customer service thank goodness, I have so many questions about money. All advise is free and investments are on commission.
