I have had a checking account with Firstar for 3 years and it just keeps going downhill! I can't take it anymore, I keep giving them the benefit of the doubt and putting up with stupid errors and incompetent tellers but I am throwing in the towel. I have so many complaints from over the years that I don't have room for all of them.
They have 3 ATMs in my med. size town. If you don't use one of these 3 you are charged by Firstar and also the other ATM. So I go to the closest ATM from Firstar--guess what it is out of cash AGAIN!!! The bank is closed so I drive across town to get my cash, what a pain. If the bank is OPEN they charge me $5.00 to go inside and get cash even though they are supposed to CREDIT $5.00 to my account. I guess when you change polices like you change your underwear it is kind of hard to remember what they are! For a person like me who is living paycheck to paycheck they are really great about taking out any charges or fees BEFORE adding your deposits for the day! This was the last straw for me. They charged me a "new fee" I was not told about it at all- according to them I had made too many deposits that month so they charged me for putting my money in the bank! So by taking out this bogus fee (on payday before my check was counted, although they had it) I bounced a check. Nobody told me I bounced a check until 4 business days had passed and I had in fact bounced ELEVEN CHECKS!!! OHMIGOD! They charged me over $400 for bouncing all of the checks that bounced because they did not tell me about the fee, and because they failed to notify me they were bouncing so I could deposit some more money. I am sure they would have charged me for another deposit, but they couldn't have made as much money for that!
I have had this problem before with fees causing bouncing checks and after an ulcer or two, and my husband going to talk to the personal banker, they usually remove the stupid overdraft fees. This does not help when you have to pay $25.00 for the bounced check at the grocery store! Not to mention how embarrassing it is.
Whenever I call with question about a new charge or a transaction I am transferred to the automated system where you have to punch in 3 different numbers and still can't get the right info.
