Pros: Has free student checking, similar to other banks in town.
Cons: Very curt, uncooperative workers, very poor service, unreliable, difficult to deal with.
The Bottom Line: If you want to, or don't mind getting jerked around, PNC is the bank for you.

| WRC123's Full Review: PNC Bank |
PNC bank is a place that I had difficulty dealing with from the start. I decided to open an account with PNC in North East because the Mac machine at the Behrend Campus was a PNC machine, and therefore getting a card from PNC would ensure I would not need to pay a fee to use that machine.
Trouble began from the start. I got my card in the mail, with just my first name, instead of my full name. I called the support number, waited on hold for 20 minutes, and fianlly got to talk to someone. I needed my card immediately to do an online purchace. I told them I wanted a new card, and to have it shipped overnight. This was their fault, and they knew it, but they were reluctant to expidite an order. Fortunately, a few days later I recieved a new card with my full name on the front. (I took photographs of these cards as proof they existed.) Unfortunately, the card's PIN number didn't work at all. I was becoming more and more frustrated with PNC. Eventually, I got a third card with both the correct PIN and the right name.
Then I got my first check from my workplace. It was a standard corporate check, and I deposited it in my account. Guess what? Even though it was a corporate check, it took a WEEK to clear. I asked them at another bank office why the heck it took so long, and a very nasty female manager (at an Erie office) explain to me that they couldn't deposit checks like that immediately for the first 90 days of a person's account. THREE MONTHS! The bank across the street I visisted said that they would deposit corporate paychecks immediately.
And well, the last straw has come tonight. I tried accessing accountlink, the system that allows you to check your balance via the internet. Well, it was down, completely down. I called, and the (yet again) rather curt woman on the other end told me that the system was down until 6 AM for upgrades. "This is a banking system. There are no redundant servers?" I asked. "No." she said. I thanked her with extreme reluctance, and hung up.
Well, I'd rather pay a buck or two to use a Mac machine then get treated like dirt, which is how I feel right now. I'm going to try another bank that my mother goes to, after just one visist I feel that they are far more professional then PNC ever was.
