Republic Security Bank is a rare gem in the banking industry of today. In the small town where I grew up, the bank tellers may not have been the friendliest folks, but at least they were courteous and knew you by sight, if not by name. Our local branch of Republic Security bank is wonderful!
When we moved into the area several years ago, we opened up a new account here, the only bank close to our new home with any reasonable rates and fees. In fact, we were able to get totally free checking, locked in for life! How exciting is that??? The only thing we pay for are our checks. Now, of course, should we have an overdraft there would be a charge, but we keep good records and this is not really a problem for us.
The tellers and even the manager know us by sight, and by name. If I call with a question, Kathy asks us how our kids are doing, and is always happy to help. Mary is equally friendly. The drive-thru is open until 6p.m. on weeknights, and until 1p.m. on Saturday. That makes doing business there so much easier than at some banks!
We tried another local bank for a short while -- a very short while. We had an overdraft of TWENTY CENTS, and they charged us all kinds of crazy fees. The first we knew about it was a nag letter in the mail telling us we better pay up. Well, they closed our account because we were going through a rough spot just then and couldn't pay all those fees. Good riddance, I say! With Republic Security Bank, if we did suspect an overdraft for any reason, we could call them and say we made an oopsie, and they would work with us about the fees. Granted, this is because we are loyal patrons and because we have bounced maybe one check, two at most, during the life of our account. They know we are honest and that we wouldn't intentionally write rubber checks. But it also goes to show how loyal THEY are to customers!
I hope this bank never gets overtaken by crazy mergers or shut-downs. As long as we live near one, this will be our bank of choice!
