My wife took out a student loan for her graduate school before we met...unfortunately, it was with Suntrust. The mishaps since that time have been scary.

First of all, they were about 2 years late in starting our payment process. We finally had to call and ask for them to do so.
Then the fun started.
We were informed that a payment book was being printed and would be mailed to us, and that in the meantime we could just mail the payments to the address listed in the initial letter. That was September, 2000.
We mailed our payments from that time until this month to that address and requested our payment book at least once every six weeks or so. We received it just this week. Just over six months after first being told we would.
Our January, 2001 payment was 'lost' and we were sent a threatening letter. Then it 'turned up'. We were told that it was all taken care of and the check cleared our bank. Then, in early March, we were sent another threatening letter saying that not only had the January payment not arrived, but neither had our February payment. This REALLY upset us because BOTH checks had cleared our bank AND we'd previously received a letter stating that the January payment had been received and processed.
I called and spoke to the person whose name was listed on this letter and they had no idea what I was talking about. He told me that the computer showed no problems with our account. But yet, we were receiving these letters!
As of today, they have our account up-to-date. And, as I stated earlier, we now have a payment book. Hopefully, this will be the end of our bad experiences with Sun(dis)trust.
My advice is...if you need a loan, get it elsewhere.
