Pros: Inexpensive. Good for only the very basics of checking.
Cons: Very poor/uninformed customer service. Worst online banking I have ever seen - bar none.
The Bottom Line: Stay away from TCF at all costs for any sort of online banking. At least until their product stabilizes. It is not up to the level of their peer companies.

| TrekBody's Full Review: TCF National Bank Minnesota |
My wife has been a TCF customer for about 15 years, so when we moved to the twin cities 3 years ago, there was no decision who we would bank with, but now we are regretting the decision.
The last month has seen error after error compounded upon by TCF bank, in a story I could devote an entire website to. The problems were so great that I have sent off three letters, and will have to probably send another to the president of the company, Mark Jeter.
To make this saga as short as possible, first I will explain that I mostly use my bank for online banking. I was very happy with Chase bank in New York, and I wanted that convenience in Minnesota. Unfortunately I did not get it from TCF. Their online banking was rudimentary to begin with, and as they "develop" it more, it keeps getting worse and worse. The simplest things are broken up into different sections, and it bears no similarity to a check ledger, which is basically what you want your online banking to do. You actually have to use a calculator to figure what your outgoing bills will leave you with, there is no running tally, and no record of your balances.
Terminology is overboard, and screens show erroneous information. I am still wondering if the initial problem that lead to my situation was caused by the bank or by me (a payment went to the wrong payee). This lead to me having to do a stop payment, send out another payment, which was stopped because they put a hold on the wrong payee, but that went through anyway by accident, even though I had called the payee and did an over-the phone check. Late fees and charges were over $90, although TCF refunded their charges. Their customer service did not get anything fixed for me, they actually gave me erroneous information and made more errors, and I did not get things straighted out until I talked to a supervisor in their collections department (which is run by an outside company).
All that, and my online banking is currently not working at all right now.
Distrust any service that puts a 30-second limit on their complaint (voicemail) line.
