Pros: Lots of locations and ATMS, free checking, online checking
Cons: Rude bank tellers, high overdraft fees
The Bottom Line: Their poor customer service and rude employees are tough to look over despite having many locations and nice online banking!

| trevdoggy's Full Review: TCF National Bank Minnesota |
I have been a TCF member for about 4 or 5 years now. I started there because they had a branch down the street from my college and they had free checking. The checking has always been free and convenient for me. I like the number of locations they have including their Cub Foods locations (which I used more often than their branches). They have a lot of ATM's in the Twin Cities as well. That is about the extent of the positive thoughts I have on TCf...I wouldn't want you to think that it was only bad experiences.
My biggest gripe against TCF is their poor customer service abilities. I swear they must train their employees to be absolutely rude and mean. I can think of very few visits to their tellers or their account manager-type people where I didn't leave in a bad mood. I got to the point where I only used ATM's, for deposits, withdrawls, transfers, whatever I could. I also believe that they intentially put checks through with the largest first to cause more overdrafts than neccessary. In both of my experiences with this (yes, I know its my fault it got to this point, but I made a mistake in my bookkeeping) they put the largest checks through first causing my account to get 4 overdrafts each time instead of one. When I explained this to the people at the bank, I got blank looks and more rude comments. To their credit, they did reverse one of these overdrafts, but I don't feel this was adequate.
That experience put me over the edge and I have since opened a new account with US Bank...They have fewer locations, but the person helping me was in a good mood and they went out of their way to help me. What a relief.
I don't know much about TCF's other services. I do use their online banking which is nice although it would be nice to be able to do Transfers online. Their online banking allows me to monitor my account as often as I want...making it easy to know what you have available at all times! I have noticed their Savings accounts barely even offer an interest rate (.5% at the time I wrote this). I am getting over 2% with my credit union, so that seems extremely low to me. I liked TCF's convenient locations, but it wasn't worth the hassle in the long run!
