I have a checking account with TCF Bank. I was looking to have a local account that had little or no fees. It appeared that TCF Bank had what I was looking for. They do charge a fee to use online banking just to be able to access your account online. I have had terrible customer service with the bank. At the branch near my home, they would not let me deposit my husbands payroll check. They tried to tell me he wasn't on the account. When I opened the account my husband was with me and signed everything....so he was on the account. Another time I went in there with a government check that I wanted to deposit and get $50.00 back. The check was for a little over $200.00. They told me I could not get any money back because I didn't have any money available. When I tried to inquire why, I got a run around. I had also had my payroll check direct deposited earlier that day. They tried to tell me that there was a hold on my payroll check because it was a transaction I made at a teller. No one would listen to me that it was not. The following day I called there customer service number to get more information. I continued to get the run around with them. I never did get an answer as to why I could not get my money out. I was told by the customer service department if I had went to the ATM machine, I would have been able to get the cash back that I wanted. Also, if you do not use their ATM machine, the fees they charge are high, and you never know what they will be until you get your statement. One month they charged me $5.00 for one ATM transaction that was not done that their ATM. I have tried to find out numerous time what the fees would be, and no one can seem to tell me.
