| LAURALYNNE's Full Review: U.S. Bancorp |
When I was a teenager, I got my first checking account. That bank got bought by a different bank, who go bought by a different bank, etc etc etc. I ended up with a checking account owned by US Bank.
Some of the services that they offered were banking by phone (I'm not very good at sitting down once a month and balancing the checkbook) this was my favorite feature by far: at the time, I was living from paycheck to paycheck and writing checks for money that was going to be there (sigh - haven't we all been there?) I would call in, get my balance, find out what checks had gone through already and figure out the balance. It would take me about 10 minutes and I did it about 3 times a month. I LOVED this feature!!
Something else that I liked about the bank was that they were one of the few banks that didn't keep "Banker's" hours. I could use the drive up at my local branch until 7pm at night (crucial for working people who count on the money being in there as soon as possible as most of it was spent before the back of the check was signed.
Until the final merger, the service times were good, the tellers were friendly (stickers for the kids - they loved that!) and there were branches just about every mile.
After the final merger (around August of 98), all the services that I loved, started to go downhill - and FAST! The ATM charges increased and even using the ATM at the grocery store (which I did a lot). The bounced check charges skyrocketed (shamefully admitting that those were in my budget...bad me, I know!) and the service seemed like they cut the staff by more than half. I was no longer able to do any phone banking in under 45 min. When I went into a couple of different branches, my wait time in line was 20 min. or more! To me this was unacceptable and I brought it to the attention of the branch manager: their excuses were feeble and they offered no apology.
That was it - after one particularly heated exchange (I only wanted a simple "I'm so sorry ma'am" - they'd wasted over 1/2 hour of my lunch break at the branch for a simple funds transfer) I withdrew all my money and won't EVER bank with them again (yes, that's anger bursting through...) Bottom line - they used to be tops but, with the new owners weighting them down, they sank faster than a penny in a wishing well.
