I’ve been a US Bank customer for 7 years. I also was a customer of Bank of America and Wells Fargo. I think they are all evil, but so far US Bank is a little less evil than the others. The best feature (of course in my opinion), was the ability to get a $5 bill out of the ATM. Unfortunately they no longer offer that "service", and I’m forced to get a minimum of $20. The most humorous mistake the bank made happened shortly after my divorce.
My ex-husband and I had a joint checking account at US Bank while we were married. When we divorced, we agreed he would keep the account, and we removed my name. I then opened up my own checking account at US Bank. A couple months had passed, and everything was going smoothly (as far as my US Bank accounts were concerned).
Then, one day I get a call from my ex. He asks me if I happened to still have an ATM card to his account. Of course I didn’t, and told him no. He explained to me that someone has been taking money out of his account, and he’s very worried. Trying to help him out, I ask how much was taken out and when. Oddly enough, the amounts he mentioned were exactly the last couple of ATM transactions I made. Now, I’m a little freaked out. Most importantly I don’t want him to think I’m trying to scam money from him, and two, how could I have possibly withdrawn money out his account with my ATM card?
Frantically the next morning I call US Bank and use the automated service to check if my last couple of ATM transactions had cleared. They had not. Okay, now I’m very worried and call my ex. I tell him I have no idea how it happened, but my transactions appeared to have been linked to his account. I hang up with him, and immediately call US Bank. I tell them what happened, and they check my account.
Everyone loves mergers. Especially when they screw stuff up. What had happened is, US Bank merged with another bank, and somehow they linked my ex-husband’s account, and my account together, based on the old information they had about our joint checking account. So, whenever I used my ATM card, instead of being linked to MY account, it was linked to HIS account. Fortunately we didn’t hate each other. We went to the US Bank branch for his account and got everything straightened out, and of course I gave him his money back. The really funny thing is, there were several other people at the branch with the exact same problem.
Yes, I still have my accounts at US Bank. I’m pessimistic about any type of product. I expect things to not work perfectly, but as you can glean from my other reviews, customer service is number 1 with me. As long as things are fixed in a timely manner, I’m not expected to pay for their mistake, and I’m treated respectfully, I’m a happy girl.
