One day, I decided that I wanted to deal with a bank that was more of a name than the bank I was with previously, which was locally owned. I figured that Washington Mutual would be a good choice. I registered online through their website, www.wamu.com, and the process wasn't that much trouble. They sent me the paperwork to sign and return. My new checking account was soon up and running.
Their customer service is very good. I have talked with them on the phone to verify my new account, and they were very nice. The only other time I deal with them is whenever I need to make a deposit at the drive-up window. One day, when I was making a deposit, the girl at the window was thanking me and she got my last name right. I don't know if it was a fluke, but usually, nobody gets my last name right the first time, since it is an uncommon last name. Anyway, each time I went through there, all the tellers I have dealt with were very nice.
I have direct deposit, so I usually don't have to go to the bank unless I need to use the ATM. I just wish there were a few more locations to make it a little more convenient. Their website is pretty easy to deal with, though.
I have the basic checking account with the Plus Package, which cost 5 dollars per month. The Plus Package gives you a few additional perks, such as credit card protection.
