TD Ameritrade has been great for me, so far. I signed up for Ameritrade Apex under the 45 Days of Free Trading and was very happy to find a promotion like that. The minimum balance was $10,000, which is a little high, but you must have that to get the promotion.
Execution is VERY FAST. One of my market trades took 2 seconds from when I hit "Confirm". Portfolio Tracker shows great up to the second information on gains and losses. The Level II quotes are very helpful and also are FREE with signing up for Apex.
For my trading I use the TD Ameritrade Command Center which shows everything in one window, Level I and II quotes, portfolio tracking, trading, and watch lists. You can also open up more windows for Level II quotes and more portfolio tracking (just in case you have more than one). Rapid entry for buying and selling works GREAT and you can get used to it in seconds.
In case you need to talk to a real person, you can call TD Ameritrade's APEX customer-only line and get connected to an agent within 15 seconds. I called on a Sunday at 6pm and got connected in about 11 seconds.
No complaints so far and this company for active traders is highly recommended! The only small thing is that the Command Center froze once while running it on my Mac.
