| hcl777's Full Review: Ameritrade |
I am reasonably happy with Ameritrade's fee structure, Web site, and overall Web site experience. However, there is one thing that is very disturbing.
I own my own domain, and set up an e-mail account that I divulged to NO ONE except for Ameritrade. I gave it a unique name "ameritradejt@mydomain.com". Again, keep in mind that no one else has ever seen this e-mail address, and it is not one that is easily guessed.
Lo and behold, I get daily spam to this address, from third party scam artists trying to get me to buy stocks. I complained to Ameritrade. They told me to e-mail the spam to them so they could "investigate". Of course, after weeks, I heard nothing back from them, but the spam has increased 10 fold.
There is only one conclusion to make. They are either A) selling my e-mail address to disreputable independent brokers, or B) their systems are being hacked. Neither is particularly comforting.
As I said, the overall experience is relatively good, but to me, this is a big red flag. If they cannot protect my e-mail address, who is to say that they can protect my account information?
I am going to try to write to them one more time. If I continue to get spam after this, I am withdrawing all my funds from them.
