| mdelcorso's Full Review: DLJ Direct |
DLJDirect falls between a full service brokerage and a cheap discount broker. Commisions are $20 for up to 1,000 shares which is rather expensive. DLJ provides excellent research but you have to pay for all of it. DLJResearch is only free for accounts of at least $100,000. Execution is very fast and charting is excellent. I left DLJ recently for TDWaterhouse because of the high commissions. I am a low volume investor and the $20 per trade was really cauing me to take a hit. Also, my free 60 days of research ran out and I couldn't afford to buy research. The web site is very well designed and loads very quickly. They have no minimum account balance, and allow you to invest first and pay by check within 3 days. Customer service was excellent. The only problems I had with them was the high price and lack of free research. If you are a bigtime investor then these guys are for you, otherwise I'd recommend Datek or TDWaterhouse.
