I initially began trading several years ago, and chose DLJ Direct for its name and off line track record. As I was new to investing, everything was just fine. But once I figured out what I was looking for in an online broker, I was quite dismayed.
First of all, there are numerous online brokers which offer free real time stock quotes, but not at DLJ Direct. Here, you must execute a trade to get 100 free real time quotes, or pay them instead. I found myself not being able to check my account as often as I would have liked.
Next, if you ever email their customer service, expect a wait of 2-4 days, NOT GOOD!
Lastly, the most annoying of all. If you purchased a stock more than 90 days ago, and do not remember what you paid for it...then good luck! You will have to search for your account statement from the date of purchase, because customer service doesn't have that information either. Kind of strange for such an "up to date" company to not store such important information on their computer system.
Oh, and we cannot forget, DLJ Charges $20.00 per trade, you buy a share, it's $20, you sell that share, another $20. It really does add up!
I suggest, as I will be doing, is to move your account to any other broker, E-Trade for one. Hopefully, THEY know how to treat the smaller investor.
