A few months back I tried to set up a DLJ Direct account. Supposedly you are supposed to be able to get it up and running the day you sign up. I tried to set up the account directly, however, the site still wouldn't let me begin trading. Eventually they required me to actually send in the check before I could place any trades, however, on the site it says you simply have to settle the trades about three days after they have been placed. I'm not sure whether the SEC has regulations on how accounts settle, yet it seems that all off-line brokers settle three days after you have made your purchases, while the online brokers are setting it up such that you have to have the cash in your account before you can make any trades. I thought DLJDirect was supposed to be the exception, but I guess not.
