Pros: Market orders are normally transacted in a reasonable time.
Cons: Commissions are jacked up, poor customer service, site is too slow.

I used SureTrade with two accounts, one speculative and the other an IRA account. I signed up for the $7.95 trades.
You quickly learn that the $7.95 is for market orders on equities trading at $2 and over. What I surprise...if you trade in speculative (penny, under $2) stocks they suddenly tack on another $5, now your trades become $12.95 trades. If you place a limit order yet an additional $2 is tacked on...the same trade is now $14.95, almost twice the "hook" or advertised rate.
Okay fine, I can understand adding a little for special services. But, I also found the site much too slow loading for fast trades. And may the gods be with you if you need to contact customer service for account assistance. The people there are rude, uninterested and there is absolutely no follow up in promises. If you are waiting for a return phone call, forget it!
I switched my speculate account to TDWaterouse and plan to do the same with my IRA account after the first of the year. Waterhouse's online site is also very slow, but the difference in their approach to a customer relations is 100% better. Within one week of filling out the online forms (before my account was even opened or the transfers made) I received two telephone calls from the local (yes, I said local) office making inquiries whether they could answer any questions, was there anything I needed, or would like to discuss and inviting me to the office to get acquainted with their staff and the few other "regulars" that hung around the office.
The commission at Waterhouse is a flat $12 for any transaction for any sized stock up to 5000 shares. I prefer that flat fee....no surprises and not unreasonable.
