Cheap in every sense of the term

I am a former Suretrade customer. Here are some reasons why I left and why I would caution others before depositing your money with them:
First and foremost, the customer service was terrible. I cannot recall the number of times that a customer service representative assumed he or she had answered my question and just hung-up (if on the telephone) or disconnected (if on the website's live help feature). Moreover, customer service was only available during times when I was not; to me, it didn't seem too much to ask to have representatives available at all times (especially given that Suretrade knew that it was quickly capturing a large, national customer base). Finally, even when customer service was available, it took forever to reach them.
Second, the website was often unstable. Though I was using industry standard software (e.g. the most recent official releases of MSIE), the Suretrade website often malfunctioned as I was attempting to execute trades. Very frustrating, and costly at times as well.
Finally, it was very difficult to track deposits because something in the Suretrade process presented a serious delay in getting deposits from my mailbox to my Suretrade account. Sometimes, it took one and one-half weeks!
On the flipside, however, if all one needs is dirt-cheap trading, Suretrade is tough to beat. I must admit that I miss the $7.95 flat fee for trading (my new broker charges somewhat more). Nonetheless, the extra money I pay per trade now is money well spent given the customer service and reliability that I receive in return.
I recognize that not all people will have the same experiences as I did. For those who have lucked out with Suretrade, I congratulate you. I just want to let it be known that those of you who do run in to problems with them might well have a very difficult and frustrating time getting those problems resolved.
