I was attracted to Suretrade for three reasons, the Motley Fool was using them for one of their portfolios, they only charge $7.95/trade, and big number three, 0 equities position required to open the account.
Unfortunately, I never really got to try out their service. I submitted my application on-line. Subsequently, I received a written application by U.S. Mail. This was filled out and returned at once. Four weeks later and I still have not been given an account number! I have been asked to fund my account, but cannot without an account number. I have all the information necessary to fund my account. I have re-configured my browser to better view their site, still no account number.
Multiple e-mails to the Suretrade Customer Service department have resulted in complete disavowal of me and my application. They asked me what address I sent the application to (in their own postage-paid envelope), they suggested that I try to re-register on-line (my user name and password are taken), they assure me that they can do a better job and my account will be open within two days. I doubt it. Their response time is abysmally slow, more than seven days to respond to e-mails. I could have opened accounts with five or six other discount brokers in the time I have wasted with Suretrade. Cheaper frequently is not better and in this case that goes in spades!
