I signed up with x.com when they first opened their internet doors. I thought it was WONDERFUL to be able to bank online. They seemed like a perfect bank. They provided you with 50 free checks, a VISA debit card & even provided the checking account for FREE! If you were one of the lucky ones, you also received overdraft protection!
I considered switching my banking to x.com and closing my local bank checking account. Boy am I glad I didn't! First off, I have used x.com and had NO problems what so ever. I've used the VISA check card, the checks and even mail in a few deposits. Not a problem!
I received an e-mail a few days ago stating that I was going to be charged $12 a month for my checking account unless I kept a $100 minimum balance in the account. For me, that is impossible. I need all my money available to me for bills. My local bank provides me with a free account because of direct deposit. I am thankful that I kept my checking account here at our local bank and didn't fully switch to x.com.
It seems to me that x.com is going down hill and FAST! They are not accepting applications for any new accounts & when I tried to phone the customer service reps, I got a recorded message saying that they are too busy to take my call and I should call back later. To me, that is POOR customer service.
I will be closing my x.com account as soon as I withdraw my .81ยข {grin} out of my account. So much for their promise of FREE checking!
