| Ready2bmom's Full Review: AAA - Auto |
I have a car that is on its last legs. Its way overdue to retire. I have been trying to figure out how to pay for a new car, but that is another story.
In the past month or so, I had to have my car towed several times. Before, I used the towing service I had along with my Geico auto insurance. But, I decided it was too much and took it off my policy. My first mistake. My mother and sister both have AAA towing service and they recommended it highly. So, I sent in my yearly payment of $40 for basic service and hoped I wouldnt have to use it. With basic service, I found out later, they charge you an additional two dollars for every mile you go over 3 miles. Three miles! Can you believe it?
The first time I used it was about a week after I received my card. I was at home and was going to have it towed to the service station to get it repaired. AAA customer service told me it would take about 45 minutes. One hour later I called them back and then they told me the driver was pulling into my development right then. The driver was very nice and courteous. He even made sure that someone would be picking me up from there.
The second time, I called them and had to have it towed to another service station from my house. This time I waited almost two hours. And this time I was worried because they were running so behind that my mother might not be able to pick me up until after work. I was planning on being at the service station already and my car looked at already by the time my mothers lunch time came. I didnt get there until five minutes before her lunch.
While waiting, I called AAA twice and each time they told me another 15 minutes. That 15 minutes turned into another hour.
This last time, and I do mean last, was a nightmare. I was on my way to work. I work about 45 minutes away from my house. I didnt want to take the risk of breaking down on the highway. When the front end starting smoking, I decided to stop and call AAA once more. I had to stop and call because I have no cell phone. I stopped at a Walmart and called AAA at 8:30. They told me it would be 90 minutes because the drivers in my area were backed up.
An hour and 45 minutes later, I call them again wondering where the driver is. They told me another half an hour. Forty five minutes later, I call again. They then told me that the drivers estimated arrival time would be in another half an hour. I was hysterical by then because I was waiting outside this whole time and had to go to the bathroom and eat. I called them again and let them have it. I managed to get the additional mileage fee waived and that was it. A small apology and I had waited almost 3 hours by myself outside in the summer heat of Florida. I didnt get home until almost 12.
Suffice to say, I am going car shopping tonight, and will look for another tow service. And with a new car, I better not need it!
AAA definitely gets an F in my book!
