| afdobson's Full Review: AAA - Auto |
My parents have belonged to AAA for as long as I can remember, and up until recently have rarely had to call on them, thankfully. These past few months since I decided we needed to get our own membership have shown me that they are not worth my time.
A few weeks ago, we traveled from West Virginia to Lake Erie. Noone told me there is 111 mile stretch on Route 11 with no gas stations in sight. So I did not think to fill up before we left home. Therefore halfway up Route 11 we ran out... Not my finest moment, or a favorite way to begin a vacation. But I though, no problem, we have my Dad's prepaid cell phone and the AAA card. So I called.. and 33 minutes later when the phone ran out of time, thought for sure they would be on the way.. But I was wrong..
The person who answered my call was unable to type for one, she asked my information over and over, I gave my location about seven times. When I told her I was running out of time on the phone, she states "well hang up and call me back, I can't hurry through this" and when I told her I would be unable to make calls in less than one minute, she says, oh, well someone will be on their way.
I hung up, unsatisfied with the service, but confident they would rescue us.. NO such luck.. 2 hours later I called 911 being the only number that the phone would access.. I got a state trooper who thankfully was VERY helpful and got me a AAA towing service to bring us gas, and we finally got on our way.. 3 hours after we stopped.
Then Friday I decided to stop at our local office and get some information about a future trip we are making to the UK. So Thursday evening I called and asked for an appointment to talk to an agent, she informed me that they do not work on appointments, but the wait for a walk in normally is not that long. So I asked when the best time to come down would be, and she stated mornings are usually slow.
I arrived about 9:15am on Friday, and there was only 1 person ahead of me, so I thought it would not be a big wait. Well I was wrong, 2 hours later, there was still one girl working the counter, and the person in front of me had left 15 minutes ago, after making an auto claim through them.
When she finally called me to the desk, she then tells me, that due to the construction inside the building all travel claims are being handled in another town. Why could the person answering the phone there have not let me know that?
So I drive over to the other office, and wait another 45 minutes before someone comes to give me information. They do give me rates finally, their prices are nearly twice what I have been told by another local agent, who charges a lower commission than AAA will charge on top of their membership fees.
This was NOT the best service I have received, and we will not be renewing our membership next year.
