| starbozo's Full Review: AIG - American International Group - Auto |
We stuck with AIG for 3 years. We never had to file a claim so I'm unable to give an opinion on that part of their service.
My complaint is with their billing practice and slow customer service wait times. We had to call their very, very slow customer service at times to clear up repeated address typos. To me, waiting 15-30 minutes to talk to a customer service rep is inexcusable.
After 3 years, our rate stayed the same or slowly went down. The last straw for us came when for no reason our renewal bill went up by $200 and their generic letter gave the reason as "no reason given." We hadn't changed vehicles, never had an accident, always paid the bill a month before, and have perfect credit. Just for kicks, I went through their website quote process and the quote was less than what we were currently paying!
Today, 9/13/02, we received a credit collection company notice per AIG. Though our policy terminated on 4/9/02, AIG is saying that they covered us until 5/1/02 and that we owe them $90. After waiting 20 minutes again on their customer service line, I'm told by their rep in a very unfriendly tone that this was all explained in a notice they had sent us. Needless to say, I will be taking this to our state's Commissioner of Insurance office.
If there is a lesson to be learned, it is to try and find a local insurance agent and not some faceless national insurer who only cares about dollars.
