| alliee2's Full Review: AIG - American International Group - Auto |
I had heard of AIG, but never heard of AIG Specialty Auto. My husband went to see our agent about renewing our car insurance policy and he stopped him. We were with Progressive and were paying about $850 a year. Our agent had done some research for us and found AIG Specialty Auto at about $300 less a year.
We have two older cars, an 88 Ford Taurus and a 89 Honda Accord. We are married, which offers a great discount, and have a car alarm on the Accord. We have to have full coverage on the Honda because I still make payments on it, but the Taurus can get away with the bare minimum.
Yesterday, I got our policy in the mail and took notice of an 800 number at the top for New Hampshire Indemnity Co. I am guessing that these people own the AIG Specialty Auto. I also took notice of the date due on our bill. The due date was 4/14/00, now remember, I received this bill on 4/10/00. I thought to myself, "there's no way it will make it by Friday", so I called the 800 number. The recording on the number is great-to an extent. It offers the billing information, the amount due, the current through date and how much the next payment is. It also offers the address to send payments to. What I was looking for was a customer representative to talk to about my due date. Unfortunately, there wasn't one. This upset me a little. I would have liked to talk to someone at the insurance agency and instead it told me if I had any further questions, I had to call my agent. Now, I know from experience, there is only so much that the agent can tell you without calling the insurance company themselves. But being the only option, I called him. I told him the situation and he told me just to mail the payment and don't worry. He also told me that there was a grace period on my account so that if I mail the payment on the due date, it would safe and in danger of lapsing. This I was thankful for. The recording does however offer the phone number of your current agent that is taking care of your insurance policy.
So far this is the only thing I have found that I don't like about AIG Specialty auto. I do like the fact that my payments are under $50 a month and that I save money overall for the whole year. If you are looking for a smaller car insurance payment, ask your local agent about AIG Specialty auto.
