| rickcf's Full Review: AMICA - Auto |
I never have been turned down for insurance in my life, till now. The story starts:
Some friends of ours who had been in 3 bad accidents changed from State Farm (who applied Allstate like tactics about soft-tissue damage and proceeded to screw them) to Amica. We thought we would try Amica too since we have Allstate.
In short our first application was lost even though it was mailed in their pre-addressed postage paid envelope. The second application Amica refused to insure me because I had only been in one accident in the past 25 years. I believe this was only an excuse though.
Why? Because they also questioned me about my wifes daughter's accident 7 years ago. My wife and I have been married for 3 years so I was scrambling to try to explain this accident on our record. My step-daughter has nothing to do with our current policy - we are not insuring her. She lives in another state and has her own auto and insurance. Her accident did cause major claims on my wifes insurance policy - 7 years ago.
My accident was an honest mistake - believing in another's drivers turn signal I scrapped the other persons car. I was not given a ticket for it plus it was over 3 years ago. (The application only wants info on auto accidents for the past 3 years ONLY)
This was the only accident in my life where I have been at fault. It did not cause major claims damage - only auto damage and probably under $2500.
This company is really strange. They accept our friends who had been in recent bad accidents, court cases and high insurance claims and reject me with virtually no insurance claims in the past 25 years.
I can also say that my friends have made a claim to Amica in which Amica handled OK but totally messed up the payment thus sending them someone elses payment amount (not check). Figure that one out.
I have read some of the negative reviews about Amica and I from my experience with them I can see that some things are questionable about them. If you have had things happen in the past (even if it was not your past) be prepared to explain them. Talk about a twist.
This was the weirdest Insurance experience I have had in my 25 years of driving.
