I previously wrote about some very unpleasant dealings that I had with Allstate Insurance Company. I decided to post some comments to help others in similar situations.
The very first thing I would do when you notice stalling from an Insurance Company when you feel that you have a legitimate claim is to compose a letter. This letter should explain in great detail what has happened and why you feel the treatment you received was unethical. One major point to remember is ***never use direct quotes from conversations that you may have had with the employees of the Company*** which you are reporting. Direct quotes cannot be used, unless it's a written quote, because they cannot be verified. In essence, when using quotes, it is your word against theirs.
Also keep in mind that when you report a company to the Insurance commissioner, the commissioner sends the Insurance Company a copy of your letter. They have 48 hours to respond to the commissioner upon receipt of the complaint.
If I wasn't positive beyond a shadow of a doubt of dates and times in my letter, I would use phrases like " to the best of my knowledge" and " on or about (day/month/year)". Phrases like this keep you in the clear from accusations of inaccurate information from the accused Insurance Company.
I still believe that if you have a legitimate claim that you find is taking an unnecessary amount of time to resolve, contact the Insurance Commission because they are the people that insurance companies have to answer too. The address to the Commissioner in Philadelphia is as follows:
