None of the large insurance companies like Geico or Progressive come even close to Kemper’s price for the same insurance coverage on our vehicles. Every year when the auto policy needs renewed, I get two or three quotes from other insurance companies, and Kemper has consistently been a whopping thirty to forty percent lower than the competition! I think the primary reason for the low premium is that we’ve been with them for over ten years with only one claim for a cracked windshield.
Kemper is not a household name in the auto/home insurance industry but they are one of the top fifty insurers. They only sell through local independent agents and brokers throughout the U.S. and Canada and are underwritten by American Manufacturers Mutual. I have had nothing but friendly, timely and knowledgeable service from both Kemper and the local agent, and I’ve never been pressured to buy additional coverage or other types of insurance.
We had previously received a discount for having both home and auto insurance through Kemper, but last year our agent advised that we drop the home owners in lieu of a farm policy that would cover our other buildings and equipment, as well as our residence. I was sure that without the home/auto discount, that this year when it was time to renew the auto policy that I would find a better deal. Boy, was I wrong! Kemper beat the others by an even larger margin than before! It seems that loyalty and a safe driving record are rewarded by this company.
As for claim handling, my only claim was handled very professionally through their toll free service. They arranged for the windshield to be replaced at my home and I only paid the fifty dollar deductible portion of the bill. I have friends and other family members that also use Kemper and have had no complaints.
So if its time to buy auto insurance, be sure to get a quote from Kemper. Your local agent can be found at the Kemper website: http://www.kemperinsurance.com/html/products/agsearch.html. They may be able to save you some money but ultimately and obviously, your best bet for lower insurance premiums is a good driving record.
