There wasn't a jewelry insurance section, so I am adding my opinion here. Most people add riders to their homeowners insurance policy, which is another reason I chose to write here.
The problem I had when looking for insurance on my fiance's ring was that it appraised for so much more than I bought it for. In fact, the place where I bought it guarantees that it will appraise for twice what you pay for it. Why is that bad? Because the insurance co. obviously charge higher premiums for higher "values." Of course, anyone could get a ring for what I paid, so that is what I wanted to insure the ring for - the amount I paid.
When I called and asked about adding a rider to my American Express homeowners insurance, I asked about the coverage. They insisted that I got a great deal and that they had to insure the ring for the appraisal price. That made the premium very high. Also, if the ring were lost or stolen, they would replace it and not give me cash to find another one. My fiance's ring is 2.00 carrots exactly and is very special. We want to pick out a new one ourselves if something happens to this one. Also, American Express treated me rudely every time I spoke to someone there. It wasn't just that we disagreed, they were jerks about it. I am going to switch my homeowners and auto insurance to someone else because I was treated so badly.
Anyway, I didn't want to get ripped off and I wanted to get cash if the ring is lost or stolen. So, I did a lot of searching and found Chubb. Believe me, they are great. On their site, chubb.com, you can find an agent near you. Also, since it is a cash policy, you decide how much to insure it for (up to the appraisal amount, I think). Chubb premiums are very competitive even though their terms are the best. They are the "Cadillac" of insurance companies.
The only downside to Chubb was that when I called the agent, the agent didn't know they could sell jewelry insurance to me without also having homeowners through Cubb. I had to call Chubb directly and have them tell their agent that I could.
I have recommended Chubb to others.
