| Jannie0's Full Review: Farmers Insurance - Auto |
I was a Farmers Insurance customer; home and autos both, for a good number of years.....but the keyword here is "was"....
I never filed a claim and always paid my premiums on time. I was the perfect silent customer....the kind of customer that most insurance companies want...
Then one day I had my first automobile accident and filed my first claim...I experienced their service first hand only to see their true colors.
My van was completely totaled, my nose broken, and found out Farmers hadn't added PIP on our policy to top it off!
Farmers Insurance tried to brow beat me in to settling for a lesser amount than the vehicle was worth.
They researched the current retail value and their offer was based on that finding.
My auto policy stated "current replacement value of vehicle" Farmers researched (I saw their computer print out) and that research consisted of two dealerships. One dealership in my town (and we had numerous dealerships to check) and another, miles and miles away from my locale.
I decided to research the market's current retail value myself. My research was more extensive than theirs of course. I contacted every car dealership in my town and also a one-hundred mile radius in order to be fair. Each and every dollar figure I was given was comparable within a few dollars give or take, but, higher than Farmers' researched quotes.
I tried to make them an offer of settlement, meeting them somewhere in the middle...by that time, I had all I could take with the whole mess!
Farmers wouldn't accept so we went in to arbitration at their expense.
Months later, and many sleepless nights, I won my claim for the fair replacement value of my van, but I had to fight tooth and nail for it.
The experience caused me to examine my personal preferences and requirements from an insurance company...and to get what I was paying for. Farmers Insurance Group did not meet those standards. I expect to receive respect and courtesy from their representatives, fair process and quick closure without hassle.
I dropped Farmers Insurance and switched to a different insurance company, based on history, references and recommendations, and after checking them out through the BBB and nationally.
*(Footnote: Maybe Farmers Insurance is a good company in other areas and states, but not in mine....I hate talking negatively about them because I have cousins who work for Farmers in another state!)*
