I have been with Geico for .... 7 years now? I can't share if their rates are a lot lower than anyone else because they were the first and only insurance company I have ever used. I am a 27 year married old woman with no tickets in the last 7 years, and no accidents ever (knock on wood) so I am probably in the lowest rate category anyway.
I currently pay $50 a month for liability only on an 87 Dodge Ram pickup truck. I live in a state with mandatory no fault insurance so this may not be comparable to a state without no fault.
I have always been rather ambivalent on Geico - they appear to be inexpensive, they claim to be the most inexpensive - but I have never had to use their services so I don't know if they are worth it or not.
The biggest gripe I have about Geico is that they have extremely unrealistic payment expectations. My payment is due on the 23rd of the month. I get it the stub in the mail on about the 19th (only 4 days of leeway here). I write the check, I stick it in envelope, I mail it in, it is a day late, obviously, and they send me a pink envelope saying my policy will be cancelled if I don't pay right now. This has happened about once every two months for almost a year now. Complaining does no good, the bill still comes on the same day every month - and the fact that I have been a customer for 7 years and always pay them holds no benefit for me. It is enough to make me start calling around checking out other insurance companies.
The best thing about Geico is their alternate payment choices. They let you do automatic payments, internet payments, credit card payments - and their website is very decent. The couple of times I did my payments through the website (using the information on a check) it worked well. Oh, and the commercials for Geico are always amusing. So, if you like using alternate payment methods - Geico is probably a good option for you to explore - there is a good chance they can give you a low rate.
