Pros: CHEAP RATES! 5 star customer service, road side assistance, 24-7 service, friendly, flexible, many discounts, funny duck commercial
Cons: none so far
I unlike many young drivers have always had to handle my own auto insurance dealings. When I purchased my first car I did not have the option of being on my parents insurance policy which would have lessened the blow of teen auto insurance. I had to purchase my own policy and maintain a clean record so that the insurance wouldn't kill me.
Since I first received my license I have managed to dodge both tickets and accidents, but for the majority of this time I have been faced with extreme rates. For liability only on cars like a Chevy Chevette, Toyota Corolla, and Mazda 323 I was paying rates from 1500/year to 2000/year. The auto insurance got so bad that at one point I had to drop it (bad idea). The DMV got wind of this and I was about to be in big trouble if I didn't get a new policy.
At first I went with a no-name who was cheaper (not by much) then I shopped around and went to GEICO. Their ads say they can save you up to 15%, but when I got my first GEICO policy they actually saved my nearly 20%. Then because of all of their good driver/good customer discounts my insurance policy was knocked down from 83/month to 53/month after 6 months and a renewal. I still have one discount that I qualify for till I turn 25 (I am 21 now) which will come into effect in my next renewal.
Insurance is actually manageable now! I don't cringe at the monstrous check that I was used to stroking out every month. I tested their rates with Progressive and found that even when Progressive gave me their lowest quote I was still much lower with GEICO.
In addition to the low price of insurance I really value their road side assistance (about $1 extra/month) which I have used twice for a dead battery and locked keys. The representatives for both insurance and road side are always knowledgeable and really seem like they want to save me money and trouble. GEICO has their act together -- providing around their clock claims services and customer services. In fact, one night I was surfing for a new car and wondered what my insurance would be. I called them up and within 10 minutes I had a new quote. (It was 3 am by the way -- hence my user name Nocturnal)
It was a stroke of luck that I contacted GEICO and have appreciated every minute of being their customer. I only wish that every business in the free world was as appreciative of their customers as GEICO.
